The third report of our project to introduce festivals in downtown Tokyo is the Torigoe Shrine Festival, which is now entering its climax.

Torigoe Shrine, with a long history of approximately 1370 years, holds its annual festival every June. It is said that the summer festival in downtown Tokyo begins in Shitaya, passes through Sanja, and ends in Torigoe, and this lively festival is a fitting grand finale.

The deity of Torigoe Shrine is Yamatotakeru-no-Mikoto, and Amenokoyane-no-Mikoto and Toshogu (Prince Tokugawa Ieyasu) are enshrined in the secondary shrine. It is believed to bring blessings such as prayers for disaster prevention, victory, prosperous business, and success in life. The main attraction of the Torigoe Festival is the parade of the main portable shrine, which takes place over the course of the day on the last day of the festival. Today we will show you six videos of the parade of the portable shrine on Saturday, August 8, and the powerful Nanbu Rokkacho Joint Procession.
