On April 29, 2024, supplementary elections for the House of Representatives were held in Tokyo (Tokyo District 15), Shimane Prefecture (Shimane District 1), and Nagasaki Prefecture (Nagasaki District 3). The ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) did not field candidates in the Tokyo and Nagasaki districts, but did in Shimane Prefecture, where the opposition party, the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ), won in all elections. The LDP's defeat in Shimane Prefecture, where the LDP has a particularly strong base, is seen by some as a sign of declining public support for the Kishida administration.
